Senior Network Engineer

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the lifecycle of the tastyworks' network, voice infrastructure (Cisco WebEx & WebEx Contact Center) and cloud network infrastructure (Amazon Web Services). This includes: managing circuits and vendor relationships/contracts, proposing improvements to the network (architecture, logical design and physical hardware), recommending specific network changes to facilitate implementation of business requirements, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. Our primary focus on the network engineering team is maintaining the most reliable and performant network possible to support the business as a whole. Ultimately, you will be responsible for the functional management of our network, the delegation of tasks, and the resolution of network issues.

You’ll continually drive the tastyworks network infrastructure forward by keeping up to date with current and future technologies, proactively identifying potential issues in the tastyworks infrastructure, taking on a variety of assigned tasks and projects, and assisting others when network related issues arise. To ensure success, you should have broad conceptual and deep technical experience with Enterprise networking, strong managerial skills, and strong project management skills. You will be also managing one or more junior or mid-level network engineers.

This position requires infrequent travel, limited to occasional trips to our data centers and / or UK parent company headquarters in London.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implement the tastyworks network infrastructure, consisting of multi-site, colocated physical infrastructure, transit and wavelength circuits, direct peering relationships, and cloud network design
  • Install and configure network hardware
  • Proactively identify and recommend improvements on the network to increase reliability, performance and security
  • Contribute to the advancement of our monitoring and alerting systems, focusing on incident, outage, and anomaly detection, as well as performance and capacity statistics
  • Create and implement network security measures
  • Create and maintain comprehensive diagrams and documentation
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the Network Engineering team members and lead the team for delivery of larger scope projects
  • Maintain relationships with vendors, including hardware vendors and internet service providers
  • Manage carrier and hardware support contracting process, facilitating the full lifecycle of provisioning, renewals and decommissioning circuits and equipment
  • Own the hardware lifecycle and schedule replacement of all networking equipment based on standard tastyworks hardware replacement policies
  • Manage the identification and procurement of new hardware, carrier offerings, services, and software through new and existing vendors
  • Provide escalation level internal technical support to employees as needed
  • Troubleshoot network, security, and voice related issues through resolution
  • Participate in a network on-call rotation
  • Work with technical leadership to define tastyworks' security posture, including edge technology choices, defenses, intrusion detection and incident resolution tools
  • Report to the Chief Technology Officer of tastyworks, Inc

Who you are:

  • Bachelor or higher degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent work experience
  • CCNP or equivalent network experience
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the TCP/IP protocol stack
  • Advanced understanding and a history of working with protocols including: BGP, MPLS, IS-IS, vPC and/or OSPF
  • Strong familiarity and history working with Firewalls, Switch Fabric, Storage Networking and VPN technologies
  • Advanced knowledge and history working with Linux networking, including diagnostic tools (packet capture) and kernel level tuning
  • Experience working with Linux systems and the Linux CLI
  • Basic understanding of VoIP systems (we use Cisco WebEx Cloud)
  • Have a history of supporting critical, production network infrastructure and understand the importance of uptime (especially during market hours for us)
  • Capable of responding quickly to and remaining calm during high-pressure incidents
  • Take a high degree of ownership in your work and function well as team lead and subject matter expert, trailblazing new solutions to problems identified by technical leadership
  • Familiarity with and current experience designing and maintaining Cloud Network Infrastructure (we use AWS)
  • Able to lift up to 75lbs (network equipment, servers, cabling) and occasionally work in a data center environment

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with infrastructure configuration management tooling (Terraform or CloudFormation)
  • Experience with Cisco hardware (ASA, Nexus, and IOS-XE) and/or Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Experience managing Cisco Webex Calling Enterprise platforms
  • Experience with automation technologies such as Ansible and/or Chef
  • Strong familiarity with ticketing systems (Jira) and modern version control, i.e. git(hub)
